Hyrum Fechser Bio
Hyrum Fechser has built his reputation on creativity, explosiveness, and a belief that dunking should be as entertaining as it is athletic.
Born in Springville, Utah and now residing in nearby Lehi, Fechser discovered early that he could do things on a basketball court that most people his size could not. Standing just 5 foot 9, he became the shortest student in his school who could dunk before he had even made the basketball team. That early achievement sparked a passion that would eventually lead him to become one of the most exciting rising talents in competitive dunking.
Known throughout the dunk community as “Hyt Check,” Fechser combines elite athleticism with a flair for showmanship. His signature Windmill Elbow dunk has become a calling card, while the Eastbay Elbow remains the dunk he continues to chase. Backed by a reported 48.5 inch vertical leap and a remarkable 40.5 inch standing vertical, he possesses the rare physical tools needed to turn creative ideas into reality above the rim.
Over the course of his competitive career, Fechser has won three dunk contests and earned the highest max vertical award at Dunk Camp in each of his three appearances. Those accomplishments helped establish him as one of the most explosive young athletes in the sport and a competitor capable of capturing both judges and crowds.
For Fechser, dunking is about more than simply completing difficult tricks. He believes the small details matter. The quality of a finish, the cleanliness of execution, and the overall presentation of a dunk are what separate good performances from great ones. While many focus only on difficulty, Fechser values perfection, style, and crowd engagement just as highly.
His motivation comes from a constant desire to reach his full potential and break through barriers. Inspired by athletes such as Michael Jordan and dunk innovators like Jordan Kilganon, Fechser approaches every competition with the mindset that limits exist to be challenged. His favorite quote reflects that outlook: “You can do anything you set your mind to.”
Now, Fechser sees Dunkman as the realization of a dream. As a member of the world’s first professional league dedicated to dunking, he has an opportunity to help shape the future of the sport while building a legacy of his own. He hopes to become known not only as an elite athlete, but as one of the most creative performers the sport has ever seen.
His goal is ambitious and unapologetic. Fechser wants fans to remember him as the greatest showman in dunking, an athlete whose creativity was unmatched and whose performances left audiences wondering what was possible next. As he continues his journey, he hopes to build a name that will live in dunking history for generations to come.
