Chen Dengxing Bio
For nearly two decades, Dengxing Chen has been proving a simple point: height is not a requirement for greatness. Known throughout the dunking world as “Dunk Chen,” the Chinese high-flyer has built an international reputation through extraordinary athleticism, elegant style, and one of the most impressive vertical leaps in the sport.
Born in Jinhua, China, and now residing in Hangzhou, Chen first dunked as a high school freshman. What followed was a fifteen year journey that transformed him into one of the most accomplished dunkers in Asia and a respected competitor on the global stage. Despite standing just 5 foot 9, Chen developed a remarkable 52.76 inch vertical leap and became known for soaring above obstacles that seem impossible for an athlete of his size.
His signature between the legs dunk over multiple people has become one of his trademarks, showcasing the combination of elevation, hang time, and body control that defines his style. Inspired by Vince Carter, Chen describes his dunking approach as elegant and fluid. He believes his shorter stature, combined with his ability to glide through the air, separates him from other elite competitors.
Over the years, Chen has assembled an impressive list of accomplishments, including titles as Quai 54 World Dunk Contest Champion, CBA Dunk Contest Champion, and China Dunk League Champion, while also finishing as runner up at the FIBA World Cup Dunk Contest. Those achievements have helped establish him as one of the most successful dunkers ever to emerge from China.
Chen is passionate about the details of the sport. He believes judges often overlook an athlete’s vertical leap and feels fans should pay closer attention to the power and difficulty behind each dunk. For him, dunking is driven by passion above all else, and his favorite motto reflects that mindset: “Persistence is victory.”
Family remains at the center of his life and career. While he continues to compete against the world’s best, he takes particular pride in representing China on the international stage. His goal has never been simply to win contests. He wants to inspire others and expand what people believe is possible.
Now, Chen enters Dunkman as one of the sport’s most accomplished veterans and one of its most important international ambassadors. He views participation in the world’s first professional dunking league as both an honor and a recognition of the work he has put into the sport throughout his career.
When his career is over, Chen hopes to be remembered for a simple message that has guided his journey from the beginning: Chinese can fly too.
